So, editing of the monster that will be the BLUEHOLME™ Compleat Rules continues apace here at Dramscape Design. And yet, the voices inside and outside my head keep insisting, “What about my Prentice characters? They should be 4th level by now, how much longer will it be?!” Well, it will take as long as it takes. Those massively complex chapters full of spells for clerics, anti-clerics, magic-users, witches, illusionists, and monks don’t fall out of your trouser turn-ups every day of the week you know.
But then, there’s a little project I’ve been keeping under my hat. Expect to see something, Not-Exactly-Compleat, but Somewhat-More-Than-Prentice appearing not too far in the future …
If it takes us up to between levels 10 and 14, us B/X folks will be happy!
Oh, it goes from level 1 to 20, it just doesn’t cover the sub-classes.
Holmes clone that covers levels to the upper end of Basic’s game balance and no subclasses? Sold!
(Seriously, though, pretty stoked about this. Between this project and Zenopus Archives, B/X with Holmes’ magic system house-ruled into it has become my game of choice. With this, I won’t even really need the Cook/Moldvay booklets to run it anymore. I mean, my biggest gripe with B/X is that the monsters and spells are split across two books; you solve this, you’ve got my cash!)
Happy to oblige. 🙂
This is great news!
I’ve already purchased the perfect bound and stapled versions of the Prentice rules. It looks like these are next. Thank you for all of your work!
Looking forward to it!
How big are you expecting the book to be? I’m a huge fan of the prentice rules, they hit the sweet spot between easy to understand and rules light.
The Journeymanne Rules look like they will clock in at 110-120 pages. I’m trying to minimise page count, but still keep the text readable (like the Prentice Rules).
Just started playing with the Prentice rules and LOVE IT! But sad to see the continuing, slow non-release of the promised Journeymanne and Compleat rules! Any updates in 2017?
Don’t be sad, John! I am in the last stages of specifying art so I can get the final quotes from artists for the Kickstarter. As with most one-man-band indie publishers things just take a long time, but they do keep creeping forward. Stay tuned! 🙂
